BASIC TOOLS
When you come to club for the first time, you'll be given the Cheat Sheet, which you're allowed to use for a while. The Cheat Sheet was compiled by expert Scrabble players Mike Baron & Seth Lipkin. It contains all of the words you need to become a strong player in a hurry.
If you manage to learn everything on the Cheat Sheet (no small feat, to be sure), you'll be further along than a lot of intermediate tournament players. And it's just two pages!
How do you learn the words, though? Many people just soak them up by playing a lot of games. You can play against the computer or human opponents on apps like Scrabble GO or woogles.io. But if you want to study words by unscrambling anagrams, you might try out aerolith.org.
If you just need to look up words on your Iphone, ULU (ultimate utility lookup) is a great app for that. As a bonus, ULU has a game clock feature that you can use in live games or to practice playing live with a clock. Hoot (word study) is a similar app built for Android.
Live tournament games are often streamed on Youtube by creators like Let's Play Scrabble. You can learn a lot by watching top players play, even if it can be hard to imitate.
Finally, if you want to learn in a more hands on way, join us once a month for Tampa Bay Scrabble School live on google meet. Just sign up for the club mailing list and you'll get the link every month with no pressure to attend. Usually, we play a game together as a group against a computer opponent and talk through each turn.
